Never, Ever Give Up!

Fall LeafSo here it is, the dreaded end of summer and hub-bub of the start of a new school year are already here. Back to fall schedules, cooler temps, and the start of the harvest season. Hopefully you and yours can sneak in a few beautiful fall weekends to spend together as a family enjoying the beautiful outdoors (maybe even the beach?!).

As I was reflecting on the beginnings of a fresh new school year, I couldn’t help but wonder about all of the new things my kids would learn this year. What kind of questions will they come up with? What new interests will they explore? But most importantly, what new life lessons will I need to convey to my kids to prepare them for the road ahead?

As I was pondering deep thoughts of parenting this week, I caught the story of long distance swimmer Diana Nyad in the news. She is the swimmer who at the age of 64, on her fifth attempt over the course of her lifetime, crossed from Cuba to Key West, Florida in 52 hours without a shark cage. I have a hard time coming up with a greater example of perseverance than this story, as her first attempt to swim across the Straits of Florida was at the age of 29. “We shoulder never, ever give up. Find a way,” was her motto. Wow! What a great example to share with our children, and even better words of wisdom and encouragement for both us and our kids to never give up when the going gets tough (because it WILL get tough!).

Here’s to a great new school year with lots of opportunities for growth, living out the message to “Never, ever give up!”

Sincerely,
Jill
