Treating the Source of the Problem: My Physical Therapy Experience by Brian Butch

Brian Butch

Hi, my name is Brian Butch and as many of you might know I was a former Wisconsin Badger basketball player. I am from the area and started my basketball career at Appleton West. Since my time with the Wisconsin Badgers I have been playing professionally just about everywhere you can imagine for the last 6 years. I have had stints in the minors, the NBA and overseas. Unfortunately, over my 6 year professional career I have suffered some pretty traumatic knee injuries. That is how I was introduced to Jill and Motion Works. One of the toughest things to do is to have a patient walk in with previous injuries and try to figure out how to put them back together. That is exactly what Jill had to deal with when I walked into her building 2 and a half years ago.

I hurt my knee during the beginning of the 2012 season. I was out for 4 months rehabbing and trying to get back to were I needed to be. Once I was cleared to play that season my knee was never really recovered. After our season was over my team doctor visited with me and said that I needed to take some time off and rehab my knee. I had been gone for almost 9 months and it was time to come home but I knew I needed to find someone that could handle the rehabilitation of a professional athlete. After a week of research by both my team doctor and me, we decided that Motion Works was the place to go. It only took me one session to realize that Jill was exactly what I needed. She did such a great job on not just fixing the problems that I had but also realizing what were causing the problems. That was half the battle. After about a month and a half of working with Jill I was back and ready to train at the highest level. Without the treatment plan that Jill had put together there would have been no way that I would have been able to continue playing. After our treatments were over she also got together with my trainer and made sure that all of the exercises we were doing would prevent further injuries. With all of her help I was able to have the most successful professional season of my career.
